A secret military team, SG-1, is formed to explore other planets through the recently discovered Stargates.
General Hammond summons Colonel Jack O'Neill out of retirement to embark on a secret rescue mission. O'Neill confesses that he disobeyed orders to destroy the Stargate on Planet Abydos, and that scientist Daniel Jackson may still be alive. Arriving on Abydos with his team, O'Neill meets up once again with the scientist, who has discovered a giant elaborate cartouche in hieroglyphics. All signs point to the fact that this is a map of many Stargates that exist throughout the galaxy - a development that makes the dream of the SG-1 team to travel throughout the universe in time a reality.
Tangent is an episode from season 4. Overall it is just an okay episode. I was not really impressed with the presence of Steven Williams. For those of you who have not seen SG-1 before, Tangent is not the one you should start off with. There are much better episodes than this one. Note to future messengers: No X-Files reference please because the X-Files is exclusively Doctor Who territory.
Im watching it now on pink (Serbia TV station) and I must say this is a crap. Shallow, no acting, effects too sloppy I mean, who made this series?

This was a stupid attempt of the Studios to make some more money on the success of the film. OK. The film was great in 1994 when it came out. But the series?

Some times you can see how idiotic the lines are in the speech of the characters. I mean, did they actually pay someone to write that, was that someones relative at the Studio? This is no SciFi.

The film was the bomb, the series suck.

For the sake of the entertainment, it is best for the viewers to ignore this issue as well and enjoy the stories that exist, even if it can be a mental challenge, especially in the episodes that feature fellow Earthlings, the Russians, speaking a different language or, at best, showing a heavy accent.

It is unfortunate that the writers didn't utilize any of the standard solutions to the language problem, such as portable universal translators (used successfully in all Star Trek series) or devices that imprint linguistic knowledge directly into the brain (those aren't the only solutions, of course). Teal'c could've easily supplied SG-1 with such technology right in the first episode. This could even have explained perfectly why Teal'c, Vala, and some others speak English on such a formal level (don't understand slang in particular), Teal'c not being aware of his frequent usage of the word "indeed", and so on. All this is fitting for a programmed knowledge. a5c7b9f00b
