When Torg came out in 1990, I spent my entire weekend reading everything in the box set. The font used, the layout, everything put into the books, and the way in which it was lovingly written, were amazing to me, and captured me right off. I doubt Im the only person who experienced that.Within two weeks I had convinced my friends to try it out. Though its a bit math-heavy and can take quite a bit of time to prepare for a game session, once the math is understood and the time taken, the game can run amazingly smoothly.A lot of people dont like the Drama Deck, which is a central part of how the game runs, essential in my estimation for making the game into the cinematic role-play experience its supposed to be. It allows Players to introduce elements afforded by the bonuses given through the proper play of the cards they may not have thought of, and the expansion of possible play options they may gain inspiration for from the cards. Getting down how card-play works is not all that difficult, as long as one is readily able to suspend their normal role-play mind from other games.The game system is very simple, requiring a single D20 to make all rolls. If there is an action AND effect value, or many if youre using the multi-action rules, you roll your D20 (re-rolling on 10s and 20s; exploding dice) and compare your roll to a bonus chart. The bonus number you come away with is applied to all action and effect totals. Though there are some items in the game that require separate dice rolls, most only require the bonus generated from the roll of one die.You can see explanations for many items in the game, and descriptions of parts of the rules in the game, by clicking here! Many of these have been modified for house rules for the current Play-by-Forum game I am running, but for the most part they are exactly as they should be.
