El libro tiene tres partes. En la primera, ambientada en la guerra de África, un grupo de legionarios españoles comete auténticas salvajadas una noche que salen de correría para vengar la muerte del hermano de uno de ellos. Violan a una mujer y una niña, castran y degüellan al padre y asesinan a varios de miembros de la familia. Lo vemos a través de los ojos de un tal Faura, que parece actuar como un autómata y estar deseoso de morir. Al final es el único que se salva de la partida y de paso nos enteramos de que se alistó por un desengaño amoroso. En la segunda parte, el autor nos cuenta su historia de amor frustado con más sosiego. Esta parte es infumable. Le falta naturalidad, verosimilitud e interés por todas partes. Insufrible. La tercera y última se desarrolla en las primeras fases de la guerra civil, cuando los nacionales están a punto de tomar Badajoz, donde también encontramos al protagonista, Faura, defendiendo la causa republicana sin esperanza. El título parece querer unir las tres historias: la carta blanca que dan los mandos a los militares españoles para sus correrías en territorio enemigo, la misma carta blanca que le ofrece la chica a Faura para que haga con ella todo lo que quiera en la cama y la dichosa carta que tienen los regulares de Franco para saquear, violar y matar al enemigo vencido. Un libro sin más. Cierto interés en la primera parte (podría haber aprovechado para contar una historia bastante más interesante sobre Faura), coñazo la segunda y previsible la tercera.
