You may probably know that I have a really difficult and troubled relationship with tv shows.After this, youre certainly asking yourself how this statement can have something to do with this book, but hold on, everything is gonna be explained, at last.Ive basically watched the 95% of the shows now on air or that have already ended and, at some point, I dropped them all. There are certain issues that brought me to that decision: either subtle or evident racism, perpetuated misogyny, women getting hurt for male characters benefit, splatter-y and too bloody violence that makes me sick, too uncomfortable sexual content, exhaustingly long seasons that go anywhere and make me lose interest in the plot... yeah, a lot of things that irk me.However, one upcoming tv show caught my attention, and its named Recovery Road. If you didnt hear about it, then Im gonna talk about it for the rest of this review. Recovery Road talks about a biracial (!!!) seventeen years old girl, Maddie Graham, who is an alcoholic (and actually used drugs) yet she doesnt understand the gravity of her situation. After being caught red-handed, she has to go living in a rehab treatment center for 90 days, and by day go to school. I kinda liked how alcoholism and drugs addiction was taken really seriously. I think that nowadays this problem is not totally relevant to societys eyes, teens drink and use drugs A LOT and dont know what theyre going into. I think that serious problems taken seriously is one of the things that tv should start doing, instead of making it glamorous. Thumbs up!It also talks quite a lot about consent + good female friendships representation + cast diversity.Of course its not a masterpiece but is kinda cute to watch.Obviously, when I discovered that this story was a book first, I decided to read it andNow that Ive actually read it, I can say something:1) this book is not at all like the tv show2) the book is meh and lame afWhite and spoiled Madeline goes to rehab and the whole situation lasts fifty pages. Its unbelievable how can someone recover so fast. In those fifty pages, theres an irritating insta-love (view spoiler)[at least Maddie gets smart and goes on with her life, not caring too much about the guy (hide spoiler)]
