The comparative perspective is perhaps a required feature: given then audiences preference, anyone who wants to explain Chinese thought to a Western audience, even the academic audience, needs to situate it in the Western philosophical traditions. However, the editor sharply observed that the perceived contrast between Western individualism and Eastern holism is, at least to a perceivable extend, due to the comparison of modern (after 18th century) Western thought with pre-modern Chinese thought.
