It is thorough, well-reasoned, often convincing and quite a brilliant summation of the formation of a new global system whereby citizens of the world come together to form a democratic global governing community called Septemism. The author believes strongly in individual freedom and that each person will have a voice, a strong and important voice, in this governing system. Although the author claims that Septemism will not replace local, state or national government, if such a system were successful, it seems to me that eventually this utopian government would outlive and possibly become the only government needed in a global community. This government system embraces both capitalism and environmentalism. In spite of the fact that I used the word utopia, it is most definitely not a controlling communistic endeavor. In fact, the author himself says: ----Communism believes in the confiscation of all private ownership, and in the absolute restriction of personal liberties in matters of everything from freedom of speech, to the right to raise your own children. What’s more, communism believes in the sol called dictatorship of the proletariat [working class], which in ever sense by definition is dictatorship. Finally communism also proposes planned economy, and armed revolution. . . Septemism believes in the free market, in freedom of speech, in democracy, individualism, humanism and a certain extent of liberalism. Communism wants to silence dissidents, yet Septemism welcomes diversity, and wishes to protect the rights of even those who don’t agree with us. -----An important element of Septemism is that all energy production and use would be a commodity under centralized control. He details how the private control of energy is the source of much greed and domination, while also being the most lucrative resource, as well as the greatest contributor to environmental evils. Septemism will police both the pricing, availability and regulation of energy, as well as ensure the protection of the environment. In fact, Reclaim - The Septemist Manifesto lays out detailed plans for funding, organizing, governing, regulating and pricing energy, as well as moving the world toward Green energy solutions. The control of energy will be the source of Septemism financial revenue.At this point, the book, in my opinion, does an excellent job of painting for us an ideal society – though it is one that those who now control most of the world’s energy would never embrace. Thus, Septemist would have to take up arms against Saudi Arabia and Russia to make this utopian world a reality. Further, the companies that run power plants in America are privatized. It would be quite a task to acquire all of these organizations in order to own energy production. Nevertheless, the ideology does offer a sound solution to the world’s energy issues. I believe the author has done a brilliant job of coming up with real and viable solutions, if only it were possible. He leaves us at the end with an inspiring and somewhat convincing message that it can be done if only a few would begin to embrace the idea. It is in the third part of the book, the economic factors, that I personally part ways with the author on one specific, but significant, point.Reclaim - The Septemist Manifesto covers in detail answers to problems such as the socio-economic gap in societies, fiat currency, inflation, triangulation and focuses mostly on the answers to reducing poverty and great wealth. It seems that in this portion of the author’s book, we begin to have less factual data and more emotional assertions that stem from a socialist ideology. Although it is noble of the author to long for the extermination of societal poverty, his strong belief that there should be minor socio-economic gaps between all citizens of the world smacks of hard-core socialism, especially his desire to see the rich taxed heavily (through the control of energy) to spread the wealth to the poor. In my opinion, taking from the rich to give to the poor has never helped the poor rise up out of poverty. There are so many reasons why different societies are in poverty. These different reasons cannot be remedied with one solution. Each reason must be uncovered and addressed separately. I am personally opposed to punishing producers and extremely productive, hardworking people (who have sometimes been handed opportunity, but often in America came from poverty themselves to rise up in society through their own resourcefulness) with higher taxes. To me, that’s criminal. Of course, many people would find the author’s solution a fine one. I, myself, believe there are other, better ways to help those in the cycle of poverty rise up out of that cycle, without robbing those who have risen up out of it themselves. This is an age-old argument that cannot be solved within a few pages of a book.A couple of points the author makes in the economic section of the book are, however, interesting and quite logical. One is using energy as the backing for the world’s currency (since we are no longer on the gold standard). The author is very thorough, detailed and quite brilliant as he lays out the reasons, steps, problems and solutions to this new system of money. The book concludes with societal considerations such as the formation of armed forces, laws, racism and human equality, the cultivation of the Septemish language – which would grow out of the English language and the globalization of democracy for all societies. In conclusion, Carl Grip has proposed a utopian society, an answer to the world’s most pressing concerns in a manifesto that is well thought out, detailed and inspiring.
