Het verhaal begint op 26 juli 2005, toen de ik verteller van het boek in Amsterdam naar een terras gaat waar haar vrienden de dood van Clara Wevers, de vrouw van de muziekkant Lucas Loos, bespreken. Zij kwam om toen de twee op vakantie waren in de zomer van 1981. Vrienden en kennissen denken dat het niet zomaar gaat over een ongeluk. Daarom besloot de auteur om er een verhaal over te schrijven en hiervoor gaat ze op onderzoek uit.Na dit gaat het verhaal door in Amsterdam,waar de ik persoon verschillende personages ontmoet die ofwel Clara of Lucas kende. Zij hebben allemaal een verschillende theorie over hoe Clara nu gestorven is. Op het einde wordt de ik vertelster uitgenodigd door een paar van die mensen om nog eens alle theorieГ«n op een rij te zetten. Ze komen tot de conclusie dat ze eigenlijk nooit zullen weten wat er echt op die dag is gebeurd.Persoonlijk vond ik het een mooi boek, de personages waren schitterend omschreven. Het boek moet je wel aandachtig lezen om het helemaal te begrijpen, soms moest ik een pagina twee keer lezen om ze te verstaan. Er kwamen ook woorden in die voor mij totaal onbekend waren, dat vind ik eigenlijk niet zo erg, zo leer je ook uit een boek. De teksten over toneelstukken en mythische verhalen vond ik maar niets, daardoor vind ik dat het boek wat langdradig is.
