Und seit einer Weile lese ich mit zunehmender Begeisterung Graphic Novels. Die Alice im Wunderland-Graphic Novel Adaption von David Chauvel und Xavier Collette stand schon vorher auf meinem Wunschzettel, ich war mir aber nie so richtig sicher, ob Graphic Novels wirklich mein Ding sind. Mittlerweile haben meine Graphic Novels allerdings ein eigenes Regalbrett zugesprochen bekommen und ich habe mir dann auch endlich diese hier zugelegt, die ich schön längst hatte lesen wollen - und sie konnte mich definitiv überzeugen!Um eins direkt klar zu stellen: Inhaltlich kann eine knapp 80 Seiten lange Graphic Novel schon rein logisch betrachtet nicht mit Lewis Carrolls Meisterwerk mithalten, das sollte mit ein wenig gesundem Menschenverstand eigentlich jedem klar sein. Denn auch wenn Alice im Wunderland im Original allein von der Seitenzahl ebenfalls nicht wirklich umfangreich ist, ist der Roman nun einmal randvoll mit poetischen Absonderlichkeiten, grandiosen Wortspielen und -witzen sowie dieser verwirrenden Absurdität, die sich durch die Geschichte zieht, von den ganzen wissenschaftlichen, politischen und kulturellen Verweise unter dieser Nonsense-Oberfläche einmal ganz abgesehen. All das lässt sich einer Graphic Novel schon des Mediums kaum wiedergeben, besonders die sprachlichen Feinheiten und die Anspielungen gehen hier ganz klar oftmals verloren.Allerdings muss man David Chauvel und Xavier Collette definitiv zu gute halten, dass sie zumindest die charakteristische Absurdität der ganzen Geschichte sehr gut eingefangen haben. Und auch das Artwork gefällt mir wirklich gut, die junge Alice mit ihrer dunklen Bobfrisur, Schürzenkleid und Ringelstrümpfen und einem fast asiatischen Einschlag in den Gesichtszügen konnte mich schnell überzeugen. Die relativ kleinteiligen Panels sind eher monochrom gehalten, meist gibt es pro Seite bzw. Szene ein einheitliches Farbschema in hauptsächlich gedeckten, dunkleren (Erd)Tönen, die Croquet-Szene am Hof der Herzkönigin z.B. geht eher ins rote, die Reise durchs Kaninchenloch hingegen lässt Alice durch den halben Regenbogen stürzen.Insgesamt fand ich David Chauvel und Xavier Collettes Graphic Novel Version von Alice im Wunderland sehr gelungen, die Handlung ist zwar stark gekürzt - vielleicht etwas zu stark -, dafür aber trotzdem noch sehr nah am Originalroman. Die Illustrationen fand ich sehr gelungen und sehr atmosphärisch, hätte mir aber hier und da mehr großformatige Bilder gewünscht. Trotzdem, wenn man sich darüber im Klaren ist, dass man nicht allzu hohe Erwartungen an die Story stellen darf, weil beim Formatwechsel eben einiges verloren geht, ist diese Graphic Novel eine ganz klare Empfehlung wert für alle Alice-Fans!
