Like, just STOP being so ridiculously amazing and BE BAD. ( Wow. Naomi has never been more dramatic in her entire life. ) SOME OF THE GOOD THINGS ABOUT THIS BOOK: 1. The shocking realism. This book is hard to read; definitely the hardest to read of all Lynn Austins books. It shows the brutal shocking things that happened to the slaves; the whipping, the cruel slave-traders and their evil ways of producing more slaves, of earning money and of making lives as hard as they could for their slaves.Its all written carefully - and not in a way that is inappropriate -- it is written in a way that makes us see how it was. How things happened back then; how people thought, and how terrible things happened and people were aware of it and okay with it. JUST BLAHHH. Its SO SAD AND SO REAL AND... read it guys. Sometimes you must read the Hard Stuff To Read, and this is one of them.2. Graaaadyyyy -- MY BOY GRADY I LOVE THEE. My heart just... suffers for him; especially when hes a little boy and he gets forced to say that his name is Joe. My heart suffers for him throughout the whole book though. Hes so realistic - and even though hes a terrible flirt and he loses his faith during a part of the book; I just love Grady all the way. And gosh, how he matures. Hes a real young man in the end - and a free one.(ALSO. NOT TO MENTION HIS LOOKS. Hush.)3. Anna. (No, not Kitty. Shut up, Missy Claire.) (I loathe Missy Claire. She deserves a kick in the pants.) Anna is a beautiful, beautiful character. Shes extremely innocent, and she wont realise the brutality of slavery - because its all shes used to. Like Grady - but then in a completely different way to Grady - she matures and grows and learns so much by the end of the novel.Also... her little baby. Shes such a cute and proud little mama. Gah, me loves Anna. Shes my friend, and she deserves the WORLD.4. DELIA. LET ME HUG THE SAINT.5. I cried so much and I swooned so much and I smiled so much. (I also scowled at all the terrible characters like Coop and Miss Claire ugh.) (I do love Massa Fuller though. And that scene were my boy Grady doesnt kill him. <3)Basically thou gettest the point of this review. I LOVE IT A GREAT DEAL. Basically this trilogy is 90% of my life right now and there will never ever be a better one and thats that. Amen guys. Now read. Shooshoo. Read it.
