A wannabe-scientist accidentally launches his newly-invented machine that converts water into food into the atmosphere, which causes his island to start raining food. But things run out of control and it's up to the young inventor, beside a small-time N.Y. weather girl to save the world from a dangerous mutant-food threat.
Flint Lockwood thinks he's a genius. But none of the things he invented are things that make sense or are useful. However, he has the support of his mother but when she dies, he's left alone with his father who thinks he should give it up. When the community that he lives in is in an economic crisis because their primary source of income, a sardine cannery, was shut down, Flint decides to try his latest invention, a machine that can turn water into food. But something goes wrong and the machine ends up in the atmosphere. Later it starts raining food. The shifty mayor tries to use this as a way to help their community, but when Flint senses something wrong with the machine, the mayor convinces him to ignore it. However, as Flint predicts, chaos ensues.
This has to be one of the most original and fun movies that I have seen in a long time.

The film is in 2D and 3D. I saw it in 2D, as my friend is not keen on 3D. This film is still excellent and engrossing in 2D. I am sure it will be even more awesome in 3D.

There are some underlying messages in the film about over indulgence and social responsibility, but it does not feel like you are being preached to.

The movie will appeal to adults and children alike. Unlike some other films that appeal to all ages, this is not because it has innuendo that kids won't get, but because it is a great and enjoyable film.

The animation is not up to Pixar's standard, but this does not affect the film at all. It is unique and original and does not try to imitate anyone else. It left me with a great feeling when I left the cinema.

One of the characters is voiced by an 80's TV cult TV favourite, which I thought was great (you'll know who when you hear them).

All in all, my favourite film of 2009 so far (I would say of 2009 in total, but Avatar is coming soon, so let's see).

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
Just to set the record straight, I'm not a fan of most non-Disney Animation, non-Pixar animated films being released these days, and even my faith in the former was just recently renewed with last year's Bolt (which has topped Pulp Fiction as my personal favorite movie of all time). Sure, every once in a while, a brilliant piece such as Coraline will come along, but honestly, I find that to be one of the relatively few exceptions from this decade. So, with that said, I initially wasn't looking forward to seeing Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs. What further detracted from my excitement were the trailers, which led me to believe that the film was going to be strictly targeted towards children. Having just seen the film, though, I am happy to say that all of my fears were put to rest.

Visually, this is perhaps one of the most spectacular animated movies I've ever seen, with literally every frame being a feast for the eyes. There were moments, especially throughout the movie's undeniably thrilling climax, in which my jaw just dropped in amazement. Not to throw in so much hyperbole, but this truly is one of the best animated films in terms of pure eye candy. While there's so much else in this movie to enjoy, the visuals alone make it worth the price of admission.

The vocal performances in Cloudy are some of the most impressive ones I've heard in quite some time. Both Bill Hader and Anna Faris as Flint and Sam, respectively, capture the essence of these two socially-awkward, smarter-than-you-might-think type of characters perfectly. Overall, I felt these two characters had some real chemistry, and as a result, I thoroughly enjoyed watching their relationship evolve throughout the course of the film. Mr. T is also terrific as the city cop, Earl, delivering some of the most gut-bustingly hilarious lines in the entire film. With that said, this is quite possibly the funniest animated movie that I've ever seen. To put it simply, there were a couple of moments in which I literally thought that I was going to be ill.

I walked out of Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs with very much the same feeling as I did with '08's aforementioned Bolt: astonished by how mediocre I initially expected the film to be, and how enjoyable it actually ended up being. The only thing keeping this film from getting a 10/10 in my book is – even with the few scenes that managed to tug at my heartstrings - the lack of an emotional punch powerful enough to get me choked up. However, given the film's quirky nature, I view that as a mild complaint at best. Go see it, folks.
There is clear definition between closer and further elements. I've seen a lot of 3-D recently, and in terms of technical quality, this is the best.
The town is fed up with eating sardines all the time so Flint Lockwood invents a machine that turns water into food and rains it down on the world three times a day. Unfortunately, Flint's machine has a mind of its own, and Flint must stop it before it destroys the world. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs is a 1978 children's book written by Judi Barrett and illustrated by Ron Barrett. The book was adapted for the animated movie by Philip Lord and Christopher Miller who also co-directed the film. It is followed by Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 (2013) (2013). Yes, in fact as early as 1965 American scientists held an experiment in which, for 4 months, they fed 24 men nothing but synthetic chemicals created in a lab (amino acids, vitamins, glucose, salts, and the fat ethyl linoeate), in the form of a tasteless goo. But food made in a lab is much more expensive than food produced in the normal way. However, Flint's methods as presented in Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs are not meant to be taken seriously: more than water would be needed to create synthetic food, and making it into something that looked like real food would be extremely difficult. However the plot was heavily changed: (1) Changed from fantasy to slight science fiction; (2) They never actually try to stop the food weather; (3) The weather was isolated to the island without any part of the world knowing about it, whereas in the movie, it becomes a tourist attraction and the food even spreads around the world; (4) Flint Lockwood, the girl meteorologist, the corrupt mayor, and most of the other characters in the movie don't exist in the book; (5) The island had no association with sardines, it always rained food at the island; (6) There was no mount leftovers; (7) They never ever come back to the island; (8) The kids don't get excited with the no school; and (9) The book plot had nothing to do with many themes in the movie i.e. fame, family, individuality. a5c7b9f00b
