Since geeky Chuck accidentally became the mental host of the Intersect, an unprecedentedly powerful computer mind containing all information available to the US government, he's a primordial national security asset and risk. So CIA and NSA each appoint a top agent to guard Chuck, and often get involved with him in spy adventures. Meanwhile his identity must be kept secret from Chuck's sister, her perfect partner Devon, both surgeons, and Chuck's goofy colleagues in Buy More, the Burbank electronics store where he works as a cover.
When a twenty-something computer geek inadvertently downloads critical government secrets into his brain, the C.I.A. and the N.S.A. assign two agents to protect him and exploit such knowledge, turning his life upside down.
Chuck Bartofsky(Zachary Levi,a relative newcomer given a chance to shine and bearing more than a hint of resemblance to "THe Office"'s JOhn Kraziniski!) probably doesn't consider himself much of a remarkable person. A tech geek--er,nerd--with a college degree and a steady if unsatisfying job at a run-of-the-mill electronics store(think "Best Buy"),he happens upon a massive amount of sensitive information that international intelligence would dearly love to keep from the light of day. Now a marked man,he is almost immediately shielded by government operatives--the all-business Casey(Adam Baldwin)and the gorgeous,super-spy SArah(Yvonne Stryzinski)--who have Chuck continue his life as normal as they try to protect him from the unending stream of baddies and rouges who would try to get what they want from Chuck, anyway possible.

A well-conceived,clever show that actually has more than a little bit of an ensemble cast dynamic to it,involving Chuck's friends, family and co-workers(all names I cannot recall, doing mostly bang-up work as either allies or antagonists),this show has plenty of avenues to explore and unlike a show like, say,"Alias",the well-timed pacing and humor of this show makes it far more easy to catch on to and follow. Here's hoping this show also doesn't get mauled by the current writer's strike, for reasons just started.
For those looking for yet another CSI, Law and Order, or think this is supposed to be a comedy, they are probably going to be disappointed. But it's not supposed to be that. There's a difference between funny and humorous and this show is the latter.

I enjoy the show but right now I am giving it's faults a pass because the show is still fresh. It needs to develop, stop telling similar stories, and develop some depth of character. If the teasers for the next season are indicative, it just might do that. If they come back with another year of the same, it probably won't last long.

Positives: 1) It's a good family romantic, good guy spy show and you don't have to be so concerned about the kids watching. They don't depend on voyeurism, sexual situations, or violence to keep the audience. Perhaps this is where a lot of folks who are drawn to these kinds of shows get lost or just don't get it. Lots of people like to watch a show that doesn't have a political motive or get you emotionally involved.

2) In the spirit of Monk and Burn Notice (also formerly House that lately has to toss in some steam to keep viewers), Chuck just takes an improbable story and has fun with it.

3) It can be fun to watch parody characters. These aren't characters that have a serious personal moral crisis or dilemma.

Negatives: 1) The two main characters need to move it to higher ground and at least acknowledge that they really like each other. The "silent attraction denied" can get tedious.

2) The sister lives with her boyfriend and while it doesn't get to sexual, the relationship is not hidden either. I don't think it adds anything more to the show than if they were married, but those with children and who care should be advised that it is an upfront topic on the show.

3) Adam Baldwin grows tiresome as the snarling "good guy" agent who is always intimidating Chuck but never a real threat. I think he just needs to go. It's not a good part, it could be replaced with something worthwhile, and Baldwin is like the Twinkie that missed the creme filling machine.

4) There are several other characters that could easily be drawn in on the plot, but they are always bystanders with not even much of a subplot.

5) They kind of need to lose the bosses that come across as the lovechild of Stalin and Nurse Ratchet. There's just no purpose and the idea of good guy agents always fending off the evil super-agency tends to be annoying. Fortunately they aren't seen much.
