Nick got out when he had the chance and dodged any punishment. For Jeff though, Lisa decided it would be better for him to see what life is like for her rather than rot in prison. For two months Jeff wears contacts that make him blind, forcing him to see the kind of cruelty he was willing to inflict on Lisa.Along the way Jeff learns to cope with blindness, change his delinquent ways, and find his faith in God and Jesus Christ again. He makes new friends and decides to change his life for the better. Nick, however, does not. After ditching Jeff, Nick falls in with some new friends; guys interested in much worse things than petty crime for cash, and Jeff is their next target. in facing the decisions of his past and looking to the choices of his future, Jeff learns slowly but surely what Lisa means when she says Jeff is an eagle, and eagles dont eat worms. Im revisiting this book from the last time I read it about 10 years ago, and my 13 year old self enjoyed it much better. Im sure some of it has to do with my changing tastes, but Jack Weylands voice and style is very stilted and difficult to read. The characters seemed to me more stereotypes than original creations; really only Lisa stood out in that regard. The dialogue felt forced sometimes and cliched at others. The one really redeeming quality of the book was the message, captured in the one line, eagles dont eat worms. This is LDS fiction, and as such theres hardly anything worth mentioning about content. The only things that could be brought up are the momentary drug and alcohol references to give context and background to the antagonists, especially toward the end of the book.
