Zoom University 2021! As remote learning continues the LGBTQ Center wants to remind you that we are in full operation, ready and willing to support you as you navigate your class work and other types of work from on-campus, off-campus, home, or another remote location.  We are here for all students – including undergraduates (on campus, off campus or away from Brown), graduate students, and medical school students.
Since March of 2020 we have been providing our full range of services in a slightly different way. These include but are not limited to:
Any member of the Brown community including but not limited to undergraduate students, graduate students, medical students, post-docs, instructors & lecturers, staff, and faculty. Local community members are also welcome to participate in any of our programs that we advertise as open to the public.
Kelly Garrett (Director) and Caitlin O'Neill (Assistant Director) are in our remote offices every weekday and available to meet with any member of the campus community. We are generally scheduling meetings between 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. EDT but we are very willing to work with anyone who would like to set up a meeting time that works better for your time zone.
To expedite the scheduling process please include your preferred method of communication (i.e. phone, online chat, video conferencings, etc.) and include some days and times that generally work for you. If you're in another time zone (anywhere in the world) please let us know which time zone you are in so we can find a time that works for you.

What’s it like at Brown being a gay guy? What’s the gay relationship culture at Brown? Dating, hookups? Where do you go to meet guys?
I’m a lesbian, but from what I’ve been able to tell, being a gay guy at Brown is a pretty good deal. The community is fairly large, and dating and hookups are both easily done. There are several gay clubs in Providence, which I know people sometimes go to. Otherwise, honestly, you’ll probably just meet others through clubs and classes. There’s also IvyQ, which was this past weekend. A lot of us went, and um, there’s quite a bit of mingling that goes on there, to say the least.
That being said (and this is a bit of venting, so take it with a grain of salt lol), I personally don’t love the LGBT community here. It’s extremely fragmented, which, thanks to IvyQ, is a view that I know others share as well. The Queer Alliance consists of a lot of subgroups based on different topics/orientations, and while that’s good in some respects, it makes it really hard to find a sense of unity/community. You’re more likely to meet people through general events than ones specifically put on by the QA or the LGBTQ Resource center. Although there is a subgroup for discussing queer masculinity – I guess you might meet guys there, idk.
