In London, the violent Detective Sergeant Tom Brant is in trouble with the press and his superiors request a low profile attitude from him. When a cop killer called Blitz attacks police officers in London, Brant is assigned to the manhunt with his chief, the gay cop Porter Nash. His investigation shows that the criminal is the hoodlum Barry Weiss, but the police can not find any evidence against Barry. When he is released from jail thanks to his lawyer, Brant and Nash put Barry under surveillance expecting a new attack of the Blitz.
Detective Sergeant Tom Brant who is dispatched to take down a serial killer hell bent on killing off the police force one by one. "The Blitz" manages to slip through the grasp of Tom every time, and with the precious lives of his colleagues diminishing one by one, Tom is led to the question: if we can't protect our own, then what good are we?
I like action movies, and I usually like Jason Statham movies, but this was just annoying and stupid. Okay, I understand Jason is supposed to be a badass who's tougher than anyone on earth. We get it. He doesn't have to threaten and hurt every single member of the cast, both good guys and bad guys, in order to prove it. !!Spoiler below!!! Of particular note was a chance to get leads on the killer early on, except the main character has to show how tough he is by hurting this old scrawny bum too. As far as I can see, everyone who died after that died as a direct result of Statham's character being a douchebag instead of a detective. Oh, and no one, not the hardest man on earth, gets hit full force in the jaw with a tire iron, and starts laughing about it. C'mon. We're getting tired of silly fight scenes like that. If your going to have a guy get hit full on by an tire iron, at least have the guts to show his jaw being shattered, dislocated, and teeth flying everyplace. Or don't have the tire iron at all. But then, admittedly, this sort of flaw is in a lot of action movies. It just gets old. The one bright spot in this movie was Aidan Gillen, who did a pretty decent job as the crazed cop killer.
It's nice to see Jason Statham trying to do something else than the usual action "schtick" and quite successful at that I might add. Of course he has some stellar actors to "play" with. The story as it is, is not that amazing that you will be blown away (no pun intended), but it works for a small movie like this. Again you have to accept that this is not another Transporter or whatever action flick of Jason S. you've got in mind right now. But of course it has its weak points and cannot entirely convince. But that blame is not only to put on the actors. The story seems to easy, no real surprises coming your way. Action scenes are rare, but at least it is suspenseful enough
