Bitchslap is a young unpretentious movie, no big names, no big budget. It has a story to tell, which involves six lovely breasts, and it tells its story with tightly focused exuberance, excitement, and a certain sense of wonder. There's none of that old Hollywood cynicism, no gratuitous manipulation of the viewer, no wandering, no missteps. We're promised three lovely ladies who alternately fondle or beat the daylight out of each other and every passing male, and we get that. In loving slow motion, with dramatic explosions, bullets, and music, gallons of water, blood, and gasoline, and dialog that takes cinematic intellectualism out into the back yard and beats it to a pulp with a heavy shovel. You can watch any movie on many levels. Don't go into this one expecting a complex plot, deep characterization, or philosophical questions. It's a cartoon based around breasts that does not demean women. This by itself should satisfy many of us. However, it is an intellectual movie in some ways, especially in its treatment of gender. The tight focus and almost perfect presentation makes me think the team behind this really enjoyed making the movie and will give us more of the same, probably more sophisticated and ambitious, in the future.
I saw the trailer and immediately thought, here is a movie that has three beautiful women involved in a action extravaganza, however I was so wrong. It's practically a film just about the wonders of the female body...and dare I say this...It became boring after twenty minutes...I appreciated the flashback story telling..But the very bad special effects of make believe back grounds, terrible script, talentless actors and boring characters makes this a pain to watch. The director in my opinion has absolutely no idea what he is doing, its a mess from the first second to very dull and dreary end, a climax that I saw from the very beginning.
Bitch Slap is garbage. It's self-aware garbage - garbage that explores and celebrates, in postmodern fashion, precisely what it means to be garbage. But that doesn't make it stink any less.
In March the movie was released on DVD in the US. The US-DVD only features the promotionally effective "Unrated" version of the movie. The version shown in theatres was about three minutes shorter and rated "R" by the MPAA. Although the R-Rated version has not been released in the USA on DVD it has been released in other countries, e.g. in Germany. The differences between the two versions are not to be found in the brutal scenes, instead there are some plot extensions and some scenes that probably had to be removed due to the sexual content which might have cost the movie the R-Rating in theatres. a5c7b9f00b
