The uncut version hones and clarifies several points presented in the film. It has a greater emotional resonance, although I'm amazed at the difference between a 'G' and a 'PG-13' rating. They aren't that widely or wildly different in content, so the idea that kids were being 'protected' is hogwash.
Now that the uncut version of this film is out on DVD, I can finally give it the rating it deserves: 10. The cuts made a huge (negative) difference in the power of the film. I won't put spoilers in my review, but certain pivotal actions are changed in a way that removes the central drama and message of the film. <br/><br/>The original version, however, is glorious. It brings the old (brilliant) Batman Animated Series and the new Batman Beyond series together in a great story with amazing voice-acting and surprising maturity. And when I say "maturity", I don't mean "violent and for mature audiences only", I'm talking about the mature sensability of the film. Anyway, it's great. Get it.
"Batman Beyond" takes place about 40 years after the "New Batman Adventures" series. At the time of the show's release a precise date was given as 2039.
