Since the beginning, the heroine has wanted to ne normal. Her vampire parents are loving and caring but as a half human shes always felt adrift in life, not to live in the sea or on land- being neither human nor vampire but something in between. When she meets the hero she find him to be thee most kind and normal man so shes immediately drawn to him. As a football coach, a widower with 2 young girls and a killer smile, he is the typical American Dad and she is fascinated by him. Hes shy and unsure, and he thinks shes is worldly and enchanting. Still grieving his wife in a lot of ways even after 2 years, the hero has never felt the urge to reenter the dating game before-until he met her. How such a larger than life female could ever consider him as a suitor is staggering but when he gathers the courage to ask her out, hes over the moon happy when she accepts. Their romance is easy despite the secret the heroine keeps from him about her origins and every second they spend together only solidifies their growing bond. But the heroine worries constantly about his safety and his childrens safety. She cant bare to think of them becoming targets just by their association to her so she willingly accepts the aid of a warlock to improve her powers in order to be able to protect them. Yet still, she feels the need to confide in him about what she is, to give him the chance to leave if hes disturbed-though the thought of it breaks her heart. Hes amazed by her powers and her story but hes very accepting of it. He dont run screaming or put much thought into at all. True is hes too far in now to quit. Even scared as he is to feel love again -knowing that what happened to his wife could happen to her- he cant help himself from wanting her. He calls her every day and even the shortest conversation is the best part of his day. But their easy life is about to become harder. And old enemy has resurfaced and hes put the hero and his family in danger. The heroine has lost her powers and become human so she cant even help. In the hopes of saving them, she accepts the warlocks offer of marriage in return for his help even knowing how her heart is breaking at the thought of losing the man she loves more than life itself. It was the sort of book that could have easily gotten boring or monotone as not much happens in the way of excitement or drama but I still found myself utterly enchanted by the story. Well, perhaps not the story, but the characters. I adored the story of a vampire/human and a widowed football coach with 2 young daughters falling in love. And could the hero have been a more mellow and kind man? He was super understanding and totally nonjudgmental towards the new whole the heroine has opened up to him. Maybe he could have been a bit more...passionate or demanding? Yet he was beyond sweet and thee perfect sort of man the heroine needed after her disaster of a first marriage- even though he longed to be dangerous and something more than just a good guy. It really really made me want that kind of man, a man who risked his own fears because he loved you so much. Awesome book with a dynamic romance that warmed my heart.
