This isnt exactly what I expected. From the title and the publisher summary, I expected this book to concentrate more on the aftermath of a suicide attempt. Instead, most of this book deals with what leads to an attempt, using interviews from four survivors. This isnt inherently a weakness, but it just isnt what I was expecting. The interviews themselves are chopped up a bit more than I would have liked: a few lines from one person, then a few lines from the next, and so on. It does point out where the four stories are similar and where theyre quite different, but it also makes it harder to form a connection with each person on their own. The illustrations are, as the cover suggests, spare and simple. But theyre almost beside the point, just there to add some small amount of visual interest. I definitely get the sense that the people who worked on this project cared deeply about it. I can see its use as a resource, for those who need to understand and those who need to be understood.
