În volumul ăsta e o diferență substanțială față de anime, dacă îmi amintesc eu bine.În Voyage of the Shaman avem continuarea confruntării dintre Ren și tatăl său, Yuan, care mi s-a părut mai puțin grafică decât în anime, ca impact cel puțin, dar poate e doar părerea mea. După ce conflictul se liniștește, cei patru prieteni (Yoh, Horo Horo, Ryu și Ren), pornesc mai departe în The Shaman Fight... Partea care nu cred că a apărut în anime e faptul că toți participanții sunt duși în Statele Unite cu un avion privat și lăsați să se descurce singuri pentru a găsi Path Village, fără niciun fel de indiciu, în trei luni. Cine nu reușește acest lucru, va fi descalificat. Manta nu pornește încă în această călătorie însă existența sa este lipsită de sens fără cel mai bun prieten al său, care i-a arătat o lume cu totul nouă și i-a dat viața peste cap. Tamao are parcă un rol mult mai relevant decât în anime sau cel puțin, apare de mai multe ori, pe când relația dintre Anna și Yoh mi se pare mult mai clar conturată. Deși logodna dintre cei doi a fost stabilită de bunicii lor, Anna se îngrijorează de fiecare dată pentru reușita lui Yoh, pe când acesta, probabil datorită vârstei, nu o vede tocmai cu aceeași ochi. Turneul ce are loc odată la 500 de ani este cel mai important lucru pentru întreaga planetă în această serie și fiecare participant eligibil își trăiește întreaga viață antrenându-se, pentru a putea mai apoi să-și unească forțele cu Spiritul Luminii, din memoria mea, și să conducă lumea. Ca peste tot, există personaje negative și pozitive și tocmai în acest volum, Hao își face apariția, fiind unul dintre puținele lucruri care îl neliniștesc pe Yoh. Nu pot spune exact dacă mă simt așa de absorbită în această lume pentru că e desenul care mi-a înfrumusețat copilăria și am urmărit anime-ul atât în engleză cât și în română în repetate rânduri, sau dacă efectul este general. Savurez fiecare dialog, fiecare cadru, pagină și mă bucur enorm că e o serie lungă - deși e greu și costisitor de achiziționat, măcar am plăcerea de a continua să trăiesc în această lume care mă menține copil, la care nu aș vrea să renunț vreodată căci pentru mine e cât se poate de reală. Indicii spațio-temporali, aproape inexistenți în anime, sunt foarte bine delimitați aici și m-au ajutat să-mi pun ordine în gânduri cu privire la acțiune. De pildă, chiar nu știam că Patch Village este în America, cel puțin, am fost surprinsă când acest lucru a fost menționat în carte. Ce se va întâmpla mai departe, cum descoperă grupul de prieteni acest oraș și care sunt greutățile pe care trebuie să le înfrunte pe drum?Seria este în continuare de o profunzime extraordinară pe care nici până acum nu o pot pătrunde cu adevărat. Pot doar deduce ce ar însemna acest Turneu în lumea noastră, cum există lucruri care ne depășesc, pe care nu le putem vedea dar totuși dau curs vieții colective, ne controlează din locuri și în feluri care ne sunt complet inaccesibile. Pe lângă faptul că acest Turneu este doar pentru șamani - oameni ce prezintă puterea de a vedea și a controla spiritele, se formează de asemenea o elită, o triere a celor mai buni dintre ei, din care moartea face parte ca și consecință. Acești șamani sunt programați (dat fiind faptul că The Shaman Fight are loc odată la 500 de ani), pregătiți de maeștri adevărați din acest domeniu... au un scop în viață încă de când se nasc.
