Basically: Dit verhaal gaat dus over een vrouw, Roxy, die weduwe wordt en dan een roadtrip gaat maken naar Frankrijk met de oppas van haar dochter en de vroegere assistent van haar man. Uiteindelijk gaat ze een kudde schapen vermoorden en bam, het boek is uit.Ik zie je denken: Nee ik geloof dit niet, waar komen die schapen vandaan (en wie vermoord er nu schapen. Dat ook.)? Ja dat dacht ik nou ook. Maar toch is het zo. Nadat Roxy haar man is verloren, wordt ze een soort labiel mens. Althans, ik neem aan dat ze niet haar gehele leven zo labiel was. En dat eindigt dus in een soort genocide op schapen. Het slaat werkelijk nergens op, en natuurlijk ik begrijp heus het plot wel: Arme Roxy, die vroeger ontsnapte aan alcoholistische moeder en haar truckervader die er nooit was, ziet dat ze precies dezelfde schade berokkend bij haar dochter (ja ze is niet zo lief voor haar dochtertje, dus ze laat haar dan ook maar achter bij haar vriendinnen. Nadat ze een kudde schapen had vermoord. Haar vader had overigens een pony vermoord.... echt de fuck..). Maar dan nog? Waar had Esther last van? Ze kan echt wel schrijven hoor, want er zit super veel humor in het boek en moest vaak lachen om de dialogen tussen Roxy en haar dochtertje. Maar verder stelt het gewoon niet zoveel voor, is het een pretentieuze poging om de lezer te schokken (ik ben nog steeds geschokt, arme schaapjes) om daarna af te sluiten dat de hoofdpersoon tot inkeer is gekomen (EN NIET MEER LABIEL IS, YEAH SURE). Beetje simpel, alsof ze een schrijfschema had, die heeft ingevuld en uiteindelijk nog een paar dieren vermoord (okГ© ik houd nu op over die schapen).Wel jammer de bammer, want hoopte op iets goed.
