I know everyone is anticipating the holiday season, and looking forward to a traditional turkey or (bird) dinner. I am sure you know what I mean, the same turkey you have come to know and salivate for, the same stuffing, sweet potatoes, marshmallow and lime Jell-O, etc. Well, needless to say, I like variety and I like trying new things on a daily basis. I dont eat to sleep or fall into a coma after being stuffed alive.My partner and I left our condo in Santa Barbara over four years ago, and have been traveling and visiting new places sometimes daily.We just love driving into a new city, learning everything there is about that city, and we still hold down our jobs, which by the way, is not easy at times as we are baby boomers. I think the most important thing we are learning Is balance, and that change is our friend. We have also learned in this balancing act from the adage, All work and no play...makes for a very dull day. For me, finding variety is definitely part of the play.Time as you know is very precious. We are very fortunate that weve worked for ourselves, and we are responsible for our time. Our health and what we eat is extremely important to us, since we value our healthy bodies a our greatest resource of wealth. Ive known people that have eaten the same thing every day,for most of their lives, and to me you cannot stay healthy eating the same thing every day. I listen to my body and it tells me what I need to eat. Also, you cannot get balanced nutrition by eating the same over and over again.I was very inspired to write this holiday gluten-free cookbook, As I remember holiday dinners in the past, and everyone falling into a coma after dinner, I did not realize the turkey that I was eating was injected with all kinds of pesticides and hormones, the potatoes and vegetables were also grown in pesticides, and the wheat and gluten was so plentiful, my stomach was doing overtime to even try to catch up with its natural balance.Now when I have a holiday dinner, everything is organic, fresh and as I can get it. Canned, cooked and dead food is just not a part of my pantry or kitchen. When I view fresh food, my eyes glow and my body says Yes! Even when my eyes are bigger than my stomach, I might feel a little full, it doesnt put me into a food induced coma, and I am energized because I have put love into the food and it loves me back.I love what Arnold Schwarzenegger said in his total book, Total Recall, I believe that if you do what is hard, life becomes easy. How are you challenging yourself today?
