http://urllio.com/r2h20Terry Brogan, an aging football player in L.A., is cut early in the season; he needs money, so he takes a job from a shady friend of his, Jake Wise, to track down Wise's girlfriend, Jessie, who's somewhere in Mexico. She's also the daughter of a very wealthy land developer, who owns Terry's team. He heads for Cozumel, finds Jessie, and promptly falls in love with her. He thinks it's mutual, then without warning, she heads back to L.A. and Jake. What's going on with her, and what's the connection between Jake's hold on Jessie and the various politicians, lawyers, and environmentalists who seem to be converging on some sort of land deal? Terry keeps looking for answers.
A gangster hires an ex-football player to find his girlfriend. When he finds her, they fall in love, and the twists start to appear.
The plot line was a little cheesy for me but the scenery was quite lovely. It was filmed in Cozumel before that island became overdeveloped. There are also bits of the surrounding area of the Yucatan peninsula including the ruins of Tulum. Jeff Bridges was quite a hottie back then. I really don't remember him looking like that. Check out that six-pack! The Coconuts (of Kid Creole and the Coconuts) need to shave their under arms. They're the backup singers/dancers in the Palace Club. When the number begins and they begin toward the front of the stage and raise their arms prepare for a sweaty forest under there. Euuuuuuh
A lot of people don't get this film. The love triangle between Jeff Bridges, Rachel Ward, and James Woods is very well done. I would agree that some of the plot is hard to buy. Why would Woods hire and football player to find his runaway girlfriend. I say because he doesn't want anybody to find out he is looking. The movie is kind of set in two different stories. The first being Bridges down in Mexico with Rachel Ward and the second being him coming back to Los Angeles to deal with Jake Wise. 6/10 Good
Little remains of the original but its weakest element - its overelaborate intrigue - and Hackford seems only to scramble it further.
