Whether a space needs to pack as many folks in or easily stack and store the chairs and tables, there is one perfect fit for any occasion. How do you stack 40 chairs under 4 feet?Howe was built on the concept that furniture can be comfortable, flexible, and stack-able to maximize space. Buying quality pays off, HOWE is an ardent advocate of the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) concept. Our hard-wearing furniture solutions have a proven track record stretching back more than 40 years – they simply become companions. In addition, the degree of usage of a room increases with the truly multi-functional and space-saving properties of our furniture, which reduces the need for valuable space.

Outstanding performance according to these purely economic parameters benefits our customers. When also taking into account the well-being of users, the furniture’s aesthetic qualities, ease of handling, environmental benefits, component replacement and potential resale value, in an overall assessment HOWE solutions are almost unparalleled. CREATING VALUE is• Low life-cycle cost• Proven track record• Uncompromising quality• Quality pays The purchase price alone does not accurately reflect the real cost of a given product. Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) is a more accurate model for calculating the total costs associated with long-term investments in buildings, IT, cars etc. When it comes to furniture, you should therefore include factors such as wear and tear, component replacement, maintenance requirements, ease of use, working environment, expected lifetime and potential resale value in your pre-purchase assessment. HOWE solutions are often more robust both in the short term and in the long run.

The high number of returning customers testifies to the fact that quality pays in more ways than one … also when buying furniture. Concrete examples include St Cecilia’s Hall at the University of Edinburgh and St Paul’s Cathedral in London where we supplied a large number of 40/4 chairs which are still going strong and looking good after 35-40 years of heavy use. Like many great works of art and designs, HOWE’s original furniture designs and concepts are often imitated. The prospect of making quick money by imitating something original and desirable is for some producers the way of doing business. There is nothing like the real original. Of course, the choice of materials, design principles and angles can be imitated. But what can never be imitated is the spirit of HOWE’s humanistic designs that makes them so unique. All HOWE designs are carefully thought through down to the smallest detail – a process that requires substantial resources and investments.

Our designs are developed using materials of absolute supreme quality in order to ensure their sustainability for decades ahead – one of HOWE’s trademarks that is proven by the numerous installations across the world. In the quest to protect HOWE’s original designs, we urge you to please not hesitate to contact us if you experience an imitation of one of HOWE’s genuine designs. Flexible stacking options as with the 40/4 chair: David Rowland’s award-winning 40/4 stackable chair is arguably one of the most important designs of the 20th century. The 40/4 chair is featured in design collections and museums the world over, in recognition of its elegant lines, excellent ergonomics, unsurpassed stacking and handling, as well as space-saving advantages for flexible interiors. With over eight million sold since its inception in 1964, the 40/4 stack-able chair is an indisputable icon of multi-functional design, which continues to attract architects and designers who are amazed by its ability to create space – without taking up space.

Usage: Corporate offices, conference centers, training establishments, universities, churches, cathedrals, schools and educational facilities. Adapts to an array of environments If you’re looking for a stack-able side chair, armchair or row of chairs, you’ve just found it. The 40/4 is a clever chameleon, able to adapt to an array of environments. As many as 40 chairs stack quickly, neatly and completely to a height of just 4 feet, hence its 40/4 name. The 40/4 chair is easy to use, operate and reconfigure in a matter of minutes. With a slight lift and tilt, each chair slides smoothly into place. Linked in solid, rigid rows of four linked together, the 40/4 seating for an entire auditorium or meeting room can be assembled or disassembled and stacked for storage, with a minimum amount of labour, time and effort. With seats and backs in matt, elegant plastic resin, finely-crafted wood veneer or as upholstered version, comfort is the other key component which makes the 40/4 an ingenious design solution – from corporate offices to conference rooms to classrooms to cathedrals.

The famous 40/4 chair designed by David Rowland in 1964 is considered as the first true stacking chair and is the benchmark stack chair for the industry. Designed originally as a side chair David Rowland through the years also designed other versions of the chair in order to provide a chair for almost any application, and at the same time keeping a uniform design language across the applications. The 40/4 is available as:> side chair> armchair> barstool> lounge chair> swivel chair> chair with write pad> chair for outdoor use> chair with wooden frame In addition, the broad palette of finishes (plastic resins, veneers and upholstery) makes it hard to find an application the 40/4 does not fit. TABLES... the SIMPLA is an ideal fit: There were two key elements to the Simpla design brief. First was the form. Simpla had to be equally at home in modern buildings made of steel and glass, as well as older renovated buildings. The other was function. Simpla also had to be light enough to be reconfigured by just one person.

The result is a two-piece table with a lift-off top that’s easy for one person to manage. Simpla has superb space-saving attributes designed to easily accommodate a small space with a minimum amount of time and effort. Don’t miss the range of shapes, sizes, top and base finishes plus countless design details and accessories, making Simpla a dynamic, multi-purpose flexible solution for meeting, training, dining and studying. The easy reconfiguration by just one person and the innovative and space-saving design won Simpla a NeoCon award in 2001. Usage: The Simpla table is specified for training, meeting and conference applications in modern and historical buildings around the world. Ease of handling in essence Simpla is a lightweight, four-legged table system with a ʻlift offʼ top and a unique flat folding frame. The separate top and frames make setting up and storing away an easy process for just one person. The frame folds to a slim 77 mm (3″) and together with the matching trolley, as many as eight tables can be wheeled away for storage, freeing up valuable space.
