The 2005 model actually looks better than the current model. It is great off road and towing behind the RV. It is very easy to work on and the parts are readily available. There are many parts available for accessorizing and to improve the performance. It is easy to get in and out of, it doesn't sit low to the ground. It has been very reliable. I have been driving off road for more than six years and it hasn't let me down once. It has also gotten me in and out of some difficult driving situations. I am a rock hound and the vehicle is a necessity to get some of the places I want to go. Great in mud, sand, and snow. My wife really appreciates the excellent air ... The gas it takes to drive to school and work is just ridiculous. I probably spend 500 dollars a month at the gas pump. I feel like I'm polluting the environment, so our next vehicle is going to be more eco friendly.
It also could use a little more power going up hills. You really have to give it gas to keep your speed up. Any repairs are fairly costly and the tires cost twice what tires for a small vehicle would. There are blind spots that are horrible and it's easy to hit someone if you don't know where they are. I also hate the leather seats in the summer if you wear shorts or a skirt. I have a 2002 Jeep Wrangler Sport that I purchased used with 124k miles. I have had it now for a year an a half. The quality and dependability is outstanding. The 4.0L is a still a strong motor, even with the high mileage... nothing like that in-line 6. My previous Jeep (it was a Cherokee) had the same motor and I drove it for eight years before I traded it. My model is a 5 speed, which I love. I love the versatility of the Jeep. I have a hard top for winter and a soft top for summer. Cruising in the summertime with the top and doors off feels like complete freedom. On or off road and in any weather, it handles like a champ.
The downsides are that is compact, so the 4 people that can fit are not very comfortable (next Jeep will probably be a 4 door Rubicon). Not real fuel ef...
