As soon as you hear the term you immediately think high cost, high quality, and luxury. But, like any popular product on the market, there’s always going to be varying degrees in price and quality, so it’s important to know your facts prior to investing in a memory foam mattress or mattress topper. For those of you who don’t know, memory foam isn’t as straightforward as you may think. Regular foam, gel foam, ventilated, etc. The list goes on. For the purpose of this article, I’m focusing on a traditional foam, the Sleep Better 3” topper.

Regardless of what type you go with, there’s always pros and cons to foam sleep products like their weight, their heat retention, and their cost. Everything needs to be taken into consideration, in combination with your personal wants and needs. I enjoyed the Sleep Better, and it’s great for those who are back sleepers. But let’s break it down and take a more detailed look at it so you can decide for yourself. It came wrapped in cheap shrink wrapping, no label, and no instructions. Needless to say, I didn’t have high hopes for the topper. It also promises 3 inches of support, is 100% pure foam, and provides 1-4/9 pounds of density per cubic foot. I think it’s an excellent topper if you’re looking for something affordable and super firm. Compare to other mattress toppers in its category, it’s a great product. Let me tell you why. Great for back sleepers Took a few days to expand Not great for side sleepers Impossible to roll up once expanded Every product is different, obviously, but what’s good for others may not be great for you. Here’s my complete breakdown of the Sleep better 3” mattress topper for you to decide for yourself. What Sets This Product Apart? Upon opening and setting up the topper, I was leery. The super tight shrink wrap contorted the product into a weird, unsightly shape and it didn’t even come close to laying flat on my bed.

And it seemed to be nothing more than a basic piece of foam that was cut from a larger piece with an Exacto knife or something. But after all said and done, I was pleased. What really stands out is the true firmness of this topper. It doesn’t lose its density and provides constant support all night long. I was blown away. Like I said previously, the quality doesn’t appear to be there at first glance. My immediate thought when opening it was, “what is this garbage?”. But, with a little patience, I began to see where the quality was hiding. There’s no stitching, no fabric components, and no obvious ventilating system. Just straight up thick, dense, urethane foam that’s cut to fit a mattress. The manufacturer notes state that it’s a full 3” of foam support, and it really is. It holds that thickness all night long, too. Even now, after having it for a while, the topper hasn’t lost its quality firmness. Okay, so we’ve already established that this topper is mega firm.

This is great news for those of you who are back sleeper like myself. But for those who are die hard side sleepers, it may be a bit too firm. I did test it out and sleep on my side a few times, and it wasn’t too bad, but I still felt the effects in the morning, my hips were a little sore. The feel of the foam is somewhat soft, but because it doesn’t have any sort of fabric cover (like most foam toppers), it can give a slight “sticky feeling” underneath your sheet. So, what I did, and recommend anyone else do, is pair this product with a decent mattress cover under your regular sheets, just to give that little bit of softness under your body when sleeping. The Sleep Better 3” foam topper promises to give you a night of extra firm support while you sleep. And let me tell you, it delivers. It doesn’t promise anything more than that. No fancy bells and whistles. Just straight up, simple foam and firm support. Also mentioned is the low odor. I can vouch for that. I’ve opened some foam products and the smell has been noxious.

But the Sleep Better really has next to nothing for odor. I think this is due to its simplicity. There’s no added components, and it’s traditional basic foam, not the new-age space grade gel filled foam. Think of it like the foam you may find inside of furniture like a bench, only a lot firmer. We test all mattresses and toppers here at The Sleep judge for heat retention. It’s such an important factor in choosing the right product for you. Some people prefer a topper that holds its heat, and other people absolutely need to stay cool all night long (like me). The Sleep Better was great for me. It’s a thick, dense foam, but well ventilated. It kept me warm enough to be comfortable, but never made me feel too hot. Highly recommend for those who are cool sleepers, but it would also be acceptable for those who like to be warm. Let’s call it a happy medium. How Easy Are Returns Going back to my findings about the non-existing warranty, I guess the same applies for returns.

I found nothing in regards to a manufacturer’s website and very little info came with the product aside from a single piece of paper that basically said don’t machine wash it. I guess, if it came down to it, you could use the third-party website warranty, if they offer one. If they do, it’s often 30 days as long as the product hasn’t been used too much. But I like to find a purpose for everything. If you’re not happy with this topper, think of other places you can use it. Maybe a guest bed? You could cut it up and use for making benches, etc. Just get creative, don’t let your money go to waste. The great bonus with this foam topper, that I found anyway, was the motion transfer. My husband tosses and turns a lot and I was hardly bothered by it. It’s not something that’s stated by the manufacturer, but I thought it worth mentioning. This product is somewhat durable. The foam is made of a urethane material so it is known to be flammable, so keep that in mind.

It’s not machine washable but can be spot cleaned fairly easily. It holds up well, and as long as you use a nice mattress cover, this topper can be pretty durable and long lasting. After reviewing online feedback, customers pretty much felt the same way. Feedback on its Features Like myself, customers online felt that it was packaged poorly and took forever and a day to fully expand. With that being said, that’ really the only negative feedback to be found. Everyone loves the firmness, it covers the mattress perfectly, and holds its shape. I say it’s a win. Customers seem to agree. I’m always so disappointed when I find a product with little to no customer support. You shouldn’t have to scour the web to find a morsel of support. A phone number, or even a website, should be front and center. But, sadly, it’s not with this product. Although it’s affordable and wouldn’t be too big of a waste if you needed a refund, it’s still a let down in the customer service area.

Very little odor, I was impressed. At first, it looks like it’s going to a be low quality product, and that often means a strong odor. But I found very little. And online consumers had next to nothing to say about it, so I take that as agreement with my own opinion. And that about sums it up. The Sleep Better 3” foam topper was interesting to test out and review. I had low expectations going into it, but was pleasantly surprised after trying it out. That’s always a welcome bonus. If you’re a side sleeper, you may want to keep looking, but if you’re a back sleeper like me then give it a try. I think you’ll be as surprised as I was. It’s very lightweight, which is a bonus for most foam toppers as they’re often quite heavy. There’s hardly an odor to it, almost none, actually. And it honestly does provide mega support and a firm surface to sleep on. If you found this overview of the Sleep Better topper to be helpful at all, please comment and share below!
