A world divided into progress and devastation. The link between the two sides - Offshore and Inland - is a rigorous and painstaking system called The Process. Everyone in Inland has a chance to go through The Process to live a better life in Offshore. But only 3% make it through.
A thriller set in a world sharply divided between progress and devastation, where people are given the chance to make it to the "better side" but only 3% of the candidates succeed.
This show is interesting and original, coming from a country that involves one of the biggest social inequalities out there. And 3% is an optimistic view, in reality it&#39;s much worse. So it was interesting to start it since it was on the subject from a country that has it as a cause to give a correct angle on this. <br/><br/>It starts slowly, the plot is deep, complex and intriguing. Along the way, apart the main events, in the dialogue one will find and be rewarded with sociological and liberal gems that will be food for some deep thinking, that may as well go against any tradition or preoccupation of our minds. Some of the choices the characters make, will keep an audience hooked. I believe it&#39;s a must watch and one of the best plots I&#39;ve seen in Netflix.<br/><br/>Production wise, it seems that they were not able to provide a fully convincing futuristic look. Costume design is at best, cheap, and you have to overcome that in order to be able to get fully immersed. Also there could be an improvement in graphic design and cgi. As is, it was the architecture, the only thing that saved the scenography from failing. I wish that their success will get them a better budget next season and we probably will see big upgrades into a perfect show.
As far as the actual story its ok. The characters seem very morally neutral so its kind of hard to care about any of them or the world in which they live. The test itself is kind of interesting.<br/><br/>As far as the plot holes... the first giant one is that they are culling the population. This is basic biology, They take everybody who passes their test and sterilize them They are culling the traits that the test selects. Maybe that is why everybody is so stupid and mean? The other giant one is just the absurdity of the situation. This one island is perfect but everywhere else is screwed? That makes no sense. Why don&#39;t they make more of these super magic robots that do all the work? Why does nobody work? Everybody just sits around and complains. Apparently nobody washes clothes or fixes houses, The magic robots are the only thing that does any work.<br/><br/>Lets talk about the Marxist social commentary. Nobody produces anything. The only actual work is done by these magical robots that are controlled by the offshore, There are 2 classes: the rich who get handouts from the magic worker robots and the poor who do not. It seemed to me like we were supposed to cheer for the poor people to rise up., Why? All they are going to do is destroy the only good place left in the world and they are no better than the people who live there, I just hope everybody dies at the end because they are all such horrible people. There isn&#39;t a single person who is even trying to improve conditions for everybody, Every single person is selfish and stupidly selfish, The resistance talks about dying for the greater good, Yeah, exactly, the &#39;greater good&#39; always involves a lot of people dying, Every time Marxists seize power they kill millions of their own citizens for the &#39;greater good&#39; except it never is for the good of anybody,.
