This 1963 Ford Fairlane 500 is a largely original hardtop that is powered by a 260ci V8 backed by a 3-speed column-shifted manual transmission. The fourth-generation Fairlane ushered in Ford’s new “midsize” slot for the early 1960s as the rest of the lineup gained size. This example was produced at Ford’s plant in Kansas City and has been in the area ever since. The seller believes he is the fourth owner and has serviced the car with rebuilt gauges, a new carburetor, engine detailing, a refreshed cooling system, new suspension components, and more detailed below. The car is said to be stock aside from the additions of power steering and front disc brakes, and it is sold with receipts from the recent work along with a clean Kansas title. Though the lower half has reportedly been repainted in original black, everything above its red side trim inserts is stated to be original. The finish shines well when polished according to the seller, and looks presentable in photos while showing signs of use.

A number of chips and stains are visible in the close-up photos below. Body panels look straight and free of visible dents or signs of accident repair. Having spent its life in the Kansas city area, the car is said to be free of meaningful exterior corrosion and no bubbling is visible in photos. Chrome and black Ford “styled” steel wheels wear later Fairlane center caps and were sourced in 2015 along with fresh redline radials. An additional set of original mags and tires in refinishable condition will also be included. Chrome bumpers shine nicely overall while showing some distortion and peeling at the front corners. Other brightwork appears straight and presentable with occasional dings, including gunsight fender trims, grille, and complex rear insert with “pie plate” taillight surrounds. Badging is missing on both C-pillars but appears complete elsewhere. All glass appears clear and intact in photos, while weather stripping looks serviceable aside from some tattered wind lacing.

The trunk shows areas of corrosion and flaking in the floor and corners, but no apparent rust through. Several spare trim pieces are included in the sale. Inside, upholstery is said to be original and shows cushion damage along with patina from age in the front seatback, while the rear has some staining but seems devoid of popped seams or damage. A pair of optional bucket seats and a floor console are also included in the sale. Vinyl-covered door and side panels appear undamaged where visible in photos. Plastic front kick panels are intact on the right and broken on the left, while one rear heel panel is missing its vinyl cover. Carpeting looks generally serviceable aside from an area of heavy wear on the rear floor, and the headliner is said to be in good condition above. The calcium chloride pellets visible in some photos are reportedly a preventive measure for winter storage. Interior metal trim appears complete and presentable including chrome armrest inserts and Fairlane 500 badging on the door panels.

Painted door tops show some wear, though the matching dash looks clean. The factory color-matched wheel is well-worn but appears uncracked. Instrumentation and lighting has been rebuilt during the seller’s ownership and all looks fresh and works as it should. A trio of modern auxiliary gauges is mounted under the dash, though the temperature gauge sender is not yet hooked up. An FM radio conversion has been performed and large aftermarket speakers are installed in the rear parcel shelf. Said to be original, the 260ci V8 starts quickly and runs well according to the seller, who has spent most of his yearlong ownership working on the drivetrain. A new two-barrel carburetor draws through a new filter housing and fuel lines. The cooling system has received a fresh radiator, water pump, thermostat, hoses, and belts. A rebuilt generator and new voltage regulator supply a fresh battery and starter solenoid. The engine and bay have been detailed by the seller and appear to wear fresh paint, presenting well overall with small areas of painted-over surface corrosion.

Custom dual exhausts have replaced the stock single outlet. A new oil pump and oil pan gasket have been fitted, though the rear main seal is said to remain leaky. The 3-speed manual transmission was recently rebuilt and is said to shift well, with both the clutch and pressure plate in good condition. Underside corrosion appears largely superficial thanks to heavy undercoating and a lifetime in Kansas City, aside from painted-over perforation shown on the inside of the lower left quarter panel. A new power steering system has been fitted, and the braking system has been upgraded with non-powered front disc brakes and all new lines. Fresh rear leaf springs were installed on the live rear axle and new shocks were fitted at all four corners, including air shocks in the rear. The sale includes service receipts totaling several thousand dollars from work done during the seller’s ownership.Ford Fairlane Cars shared Steve DeGenaro's photo.Steve DeGenarotoFord Fairlane CarsJust got this from a cousin.

It was originally my Grandfather's and I remember driving it when I was 18 (I'm in my 50's now). It needs some detail work, but is generally a pretty nice car. And the fact it was my Grandfather's makes it very very special!Ford Fairlane Cars shared Joe Evans's photo.Joe EvanstoFord Fairlane CarsHi everyone! I just came across this page, I love fairlanes! The Galaxie series continued as the top-of-the-line full-...size Ford. Fairlane 500s were mid-level in the lineup and were equivalent to the Chevrolet Bel Air. Fairlanes were primarily sold as base level trim models for fleet use (taxi, police).
