Conor McGregor has launched a surprise attack on Carl Froch on Twitter this evening.

The two-weight UFC champion regularly goes after people on the social media site when he's had a 'Proper Twelve' whisky or five, with a whole host of posts being composed before ultimately being deleted over the years.

And former super middleweight world champion Froch was the latest victim on Saturday night. 'The Cobra' was providing analysis for Sky Sports' boxing coverage of the huge world heavyweight title unification rematch between Oleksandr Usyk and Anthony Joshua.

It seems as though McGregor, 0-1 in professional boxing, was not enjoying Froch's work and decided to slate him quite brutally on social media.

McGregor wrote: "That froch tick little scrawny pencil neck I’ll grab his head and twist it clean off at a 1er [sic] with my bare hands. Little Wally of a thing I’ll Slap you around you little toffee nose toss pot."

It was very much a random diss from the Notorious, who has been out of action for more than a year since he broke his leg in his bout with Dustin Poirier at UFC 264.

We're not sure Froch has been made aware of McGregor's comments just yet but they may well prompt him to come out of retirement and perform in front of 80,000 fans at Wembley Stadium once more.

Until now, Froch had been one of the few people McGregor hasn't feuded with. However, he was critical of the Irishman's boxing ability in a recent interview.

"McGregor can't punch, he couldn't knock the skin off a rice pudding," Froch told Joe.co.uk.

"I was there when he fought Floyd Mayweather - Conor McGregor is a big name because he's got the mouth and he's got the charisma.

"I'm just sort of getting into mixed martial arts now, my knowledge isn't [great]. I watch a fight and I won't know who I'm watching but I have to watch it back again. It gets brutal in there at times and I've got a lot of respect for these fighters."
