TV 2 criticizes new media agreement: 'It's worrying' | BT Film, TV and Streaming - www.bt.dk TV 2 is not happy with the media agreement that the Folketing has reached. It's clearly stated in one that the TV station has broadcast. "The ambition in the media negotiations was to strengthen public service and thus also TV 2, but we do not see the political visions for TV 2 in the agreement," says TV 2's chairman of the board, Jimmy Maymann. "It is worrying that the consideration for TV 2's central and crucial position in the Danish value chain does not fill anything, but that on the contrary, TV 2 is imposed a streaming tax and additional obligations that challenge TV 2." He points out that the need for political support to free, independent media has never been more important, but that the media agreement is instead a narrow political agreement, which shows trends that are in line with increased political control of the media. In the end, TV 2 believes that politicians are challenging the arm's length principle. "The state media has exactly the same need and claim to be free and independent media, and therefore it is not possible to politically give oneself a greater access to restrict the freedom and independence of state media than private ones," says Jimmy Maymann. The streaming tax, which means that streaming services such as Netflix, HBO and TV 2 PLAY will in future have to pay six percent in tax on their earnings in Denmark, also arouses annoyance at TV 2. »We are very sorry that the political intentions to ensure a form of taxation of the international giants also ends up hitting TV 2, as if someone is ensuring Danes access to high-quality Danish content, «says TV 2's CEO, Anne Engdal Stig Christensen.
