Prince Andrew loses another title | BT Royale - www.bt.dk On Wednesday night, Prince Andrew lost another honorary title. A unanimous city council in York, decided Wednesday night that the prince may no longer use the title 'freeman' of York. The title is given to persons whom a city council wishes to honor. The title does not confer any privileges in itself and is solely an honorary title which shows that the person is held in high esteem in the city. In addition, the City Council of York demands that either the Queen or the government deprive the prince of the title ‘Duke of York’. It writes City Councilor Darryl Smalley, who is proposing, was pleased that a unanimous city council backed the deprivation of the title of liberty. "I was pleased to see councilors from all parties support this proposal and make it clear that it is no longer appropriate for Prince Andrew to represent York and its people," he told Sky News. The decision is a result of the trial against Prince Andrew, in which Virginia Giuffre accused him of having committed several sexual assaults against her while she was a minor. Although Prince Andrew and Virginia Giuffre reached an agreement in February, politicians in York believe that Andrew should now relinquish the title of Duke of York. Since 1986, the prince has been able to adorn himself with the title, which since 1384 has been awarded to only 14 members of the British royal family. If Andrew does not choose to hand it over himself, the city council has asked Queen Elizabeth or the government to deprive him of the title.
