The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has removed chapters dealing with the rise of Islamic empires in Afro-Asian territories, chronicles of Mughal courts, the Cold War and the industrial revolution from the History and Political Science syllabus of classes 11 and 12, a section of teachers has said.

The board has also officially declared that it will conduct only one board examination for the 2022-23 batch, which will be held at the end of the academic session. 

14. *ALERT* : A person impersonating as Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu is sending WhatsApp messages to people, including to VIPs, soliciting help and financial assistance.

The Vice President Secretariat cautioned people that the imposter is sending WhatsApp messages from mobile number 9439073183. "There is a possibility that such fake messages could emanate from more numbers.

1. Country registers nearly 6% growth in steel production with 31.9 million tonnes during January to March this year.

1. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh felicitates 1971 war veterans in Assam.

2. A Pakistani terrorist of the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) outfit was killed in an encounter with security forces in Kulgam district of J&K on Saturday.

Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the Mirhama area of Kulgam in south Kashmir following inputs about the presence of terrorists .

3. Speaking on the ongoing eastern Ladakh standoff between India and China, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said that India will continue holding talks with China for a peaceful resolution on the eastern Ladakh row and thus the disengagement of the troops and de-escalation of the situation is the way forward.

India and China have so far held 15 rounds of military talks on the eastern Ladakh standoff including the last one being held on March 11.

1. US Congress member Ilhan Omar visited Pakistan recently on a trip that potentially raises controversial subjects because she went to Kashmir and the trip could inflame Pakistani far-right nationalists. 

The Times of India noted that Omar’s visit was “unofficial” and that her visit to “occupied Kashmir (PoK) did not represent the United States government in any way.” The report noted that India had condemned her trip to contested Kashmir as violating India's territorial integrity and sovereignty.

2. Recently, Pakistan carried out an airstrike in Afghanistan that massacred civilians. Reports say that dozens were killed in the airstrike and the New York Times said that 45 had been killed, citing to Afghan officials. 

Omar has in the past slammed the US for airstrikes in Somalia and Syria and in Afghanistan but has been silent on the Pakistani airstrike and human rights abuses.

3. President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen will arrive in New Delhi on 23 Apr, Saturday to celebrate 60 years of relationship between India and the European Union.

4. India has agreed to extend an additional $500 million credit line to help Sri Lanka import fuel, SL Finance Minister Ali Sabry said, amid delays in chalking out a bailout package with the IMF to mitigate the dire financial crisis facing the island nation.

5. Officials from India's Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC), Ministry of Power, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) and Ministry of Coal held meetings with the German official.

The discussion revolved around India-Germany's collaboration to scale up power generation through renewable sources to 500 GW by 2030 and to reach 'Climate Neutrality' by 2070.

Dismissing UK Labour MP Naz Shah's remarks on human rights in India, Indian scholar Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi Bareilvi said that Muslims here live in peace and any interference by a foreign nation in India's internal matter is unwarranted. Confronting the UK MP's comments, Razvi, Director of Islamic Research Centre, said.
