21-year-old Eino from East Greenland gives a fuckfinger to bad statistics: 'We must not feel sorry for ourselves. We must believe in ourselves' | Culture | DR The young people in East Greenland refuse to succumb to stigma in the new documentary 'Tsumu'. Of Drunk, and Suicide. It is the depressing image of the small, isolated town of Tasiilaq in East Greenland, which is overrepresented in all the very heavy statistics. Here live 2,000 who speak their very own dialect, and who last year got due to chaotic conditions. But behind the tragic stories hides a youth who insists on breaking through the ice and flourishing. For them, Tasiilaq is not a desolate, lost place - that's where they have their lives. And yes, there are big social problems growing up that place, but there are also joys and hopes; all that we can not read about in the statistics. But that we can now get an insight into the new documentary 'Tsumu', which depicts the life of the young people in the remote city that can only be reached by flying or sailing. of the two main characters we follow is Eino Taunajik. He is queer -, dreams of becoming an actor, loves makeup and has always felt that he stood out from the others. It is something he has struggled a lot with and which he is still learning to accept thanks to be, among other things, YouTube and the net, where young people can buy idol posters and all the clothes they can not get in the local shops. So instead of "hiding away", which Eino in his own words wanted for many years, he has started the city's theater group, where some of the city's young people meet and play their emotions on stage. - I stayed all my childhood, but had never in my life talked about emotions, so I felt that this was needed, says the now 21-year-old Eino to dr.dk.- It's nice to be in a room where we sit together and talk about everything; all emotions, even what is difficult - and where others are listening, he explains. 'Tsumu - Where Do You Go With Your Dreams' is a documentary by director Kasper Kiertzner. It follows the two young Eino and Lars who live in Tasiilaq - the largest city in eastern Greenland - for a period of two years. Eino and Lars have also filmed themselves and their friends. "Tsumu" means "where are you going?" in East Greenlandic. The documentary won the 'Special Mention' award at the film festival CPH: DOX 2022 and was selected for NORDIC: DOX AWARD and POLITIKEN: DOX AWARD. It can be seen on. and turns it into notions of community and hope.- We must not feel sorry for ourselves. We must believe in ourselves, as Eino says. The documentary 'Tsumu' means "where are you going?" in East Greenlandic, and that is the question that Eino and his friend Lars ask themselves again and again in the documentary. Because you can travel away from the safe hometown to Nuuk, Copenhagen or out into the world and leave Tasiilaq when you feel a responsibility to create a better life for the next young generations? Below, Eino shows pictures to dr.dk from his life in Tasiilaq, which despite problems and dark thoughts is also filled with love - and hope.
