Right to be forgotten. I can even describe you a quick scenario - maybe someone I know finds out I engage in a public group where I share opinions that I don't want that person to read. Maybe I don't want my sister to find out I'm a furry, or I hold a political opinion, or something else and I just want to leave that chat without leaving a trace
Anyway I don't see how having such an option would be more controversial because it leaves old conversations confusing, than having an option to delete the chat history for both parties

That's why I said, you can delete your account
So people will just see "Deleted account"
riccardo, [2/11/21 16:45]
[In reply to Th -β.-mas]
That's extreme
riccardo, [2/11/21 16:45]
Why should I delete the account entirely lol

"Delete all"
riccardo, [2/11/21 16:47]
[In reply to Th -β.-mas]
That covers the right to be forgotten, okay. Doesn't cover other scenarios. The same scenarios Telegram used to market the "revoke messages 2.0" update, but with groups

What is that?

luckily this chat is a public group, if this is a private group and you "cleared chat history" before, you won't be able to delete some of those messages which included in those cleared chat histories. But those messages will remain there for some other people who didn't clear chat history.
the only escape for now is ask an admin to "delete all from you"
Th -β.-mas, [2/11/21 16:50]
[In reply to Dash God]
You are aware if you delete history It is only for you
Th -β.-mas, [2/11/21 16:50]
It will not delete for all members
Th -β.-mas, [2/11/21 16:50]
Especially if you are not admin
Dash God, [2/11/21 16:51]
for that I think it's good to let the group owner to be able to delete the whole chat history for everyone with one click. to avoid chat history fragments.
Dash God, [2/11/21 16:51]
[In reply to Th -β.-mas]
I don't think you can delete the whole chat history with one request even if you are admin.
Th -β.-mas, [2/11/21 16:51]
[In reply to Dash God]
You can just create an other group

I have a personal private group where I chat with people I trust and I clear chat history once in a while (I always have important and non-sensitive things backup somewhere else). currently I do that by using a userbot to "delete all from the user" for each member.
it's a very bad approach if I create new groups and invite my friends once in a while to just clear chat histories.

When will be the next update in telegram?
Aokromes, [2/11/21 16:54]
when ready
Th -β.-mas, [2/11/21 16:54]
[In reply to Dash God]
But anyway, everybody can exports chats as many time as they want

Ok

[In reply to Th -β.-mas]
yes you can't stop people from recording a chat.
But avoiding chat history fragments and make sure every member to fetch the same chat history still make sense. telegram group chats are cloud chats.
it somehow make sure that some members won't be able to show some old sensitive contents at any time.

Anyway that's an other topic
And I don't disagree with this type of feature
Th -β.-mas, [2/11/21 16:57]
But maybe only if someday, we have secret group chats
Th -β.-mas, [2/11/21 16:57]
It will really make sense in this case
